Mission

I’m strimming around, move out of my rake!

2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Bristol.

Another balmy Sunday morning in Bristol - already warm but perfect for a spot of GoodGym! Running over from an early start helping out with junior park run in Eastville Park, Alex joined Fi (and her bicycle!) near Mrs C’s home.

Mrs C had spent some time in hospital recently and this, combined with the crazy-wonderful spell of weather, meant that the lawns in both front and back gardens had grown to a significant height.

Fortunately for the GoodGym pair, in Mrs C’s shed lives a very decent strimmer, which needed only a bit of attention from Alex to set up while Fi obtained a rake, shears and some bin bags.

The pair took turns to operate what turned out to be a fairly forgiving strimmer in the heat; it dealt well with the long grass, but the occasional weed stopped them in their tracks and required a quick unplug and re-wiring of the strimmer’s business end.

Things got a bit Springwatch when they spotted some little red-bottomed bees hovering around a patch of newly-strimmed grass. This was almost definitely a little subterranean hive of sorts, so the GoodGymming pair gave the bees a respectful bit of space to familiarise themselves with the shorter grass.

A few hours of work and with the midday sun at its strongest, Alex and Fi tidied the grass and weeds into some wonderfully robust bin bags before bidding farewell to an appreciative Mrs C.

Huge pun credit to Alex for this gem - if you don’t have a bit of Kylie in your head now, you’re doing it wrong!
