Creatures of packet

For several weeks we have been spending our Saturday mornings assisting the local Terracycle unit located in Pinewood Nurseries, close to Wexham Park Hospital. The global not-for-profit organisation aims to eliminate the idea of waste by recycling the non-recyclable - items that you're unable to include in your recycling bags at home. They collect a range of goods, including coffee capsules, pens, baby food pouches, toothpaste tubes and more.

This week four of us were tasked with helping to prepare donated crisp packets that are going to be turned into sleeping bag survival sheets for the homeless. This worthy cause is run by a charity based in Hastings called the Crisp Packet Project.

A cut above the rest

As there was a quite a backlog of these packets due to the lockdown, we decided to split into two teams to get through as many packets as we could. Naomi and Gauri worked on one station cutting and washing the packets, while Kam and I (Sandy) did the same at the other end of our workspace.

And that's a wrap!

As we got to the end of our two hour slot for this mission, we wiped dry the foil sheets and stacked them in boxes ready for sending on to the charity. The Crisp Packet Project will then iron the packets together to make the sheets for those in need.
