On (another) wet night in Wanstead, six of Goodgym Redbridge's hardiest runners met to get hot and sweaty and do good deeds around Wanstead House Community Centre - and they ran 5km in the process.

The weather gods haven't been too kind to us in recent weeks and this is the third Monday in a row when the team has had to deal with torrential downpours. Despite the inclement weather a hardcore group of six met at Wanstead House keen to get stuck in and make the Centre a better place for the many people who visit it each week.

With Peter, Martin and Vicki raking the never-ending leaf fall, John chopping back some of the plants that had become overgrown and James clearing the gutters on the theatre hall, the House was soon a hive of activity. These small tasks are an important part of keeping the house in great shape and Anne and Anna who look after the Centre are always thrilled to have us helping out.

With the task complete within 45 minutes, the squad were soon up the road for the classic winter, Eagle Pond, round - a 5km loop around the outside of part of Epping Forest. Some strong running all round saw the team return for a bit of stretching and some admiration of our handiwork.

An especially big shout out to the legend that is Peter who, last week, surpassed 300 tasks since joining Goodgym. He has been a huge part of Goodgym Redbridge and Goodgym Hackney, enthusiastically taking part in missions, races and spreading the Goodgym word. Congrats Peter - only 200 tasks until the next tee!

If you would like to get involved next week, you can sign up using the link on the top right of this page...what are you waiting for?

I investigoogled questions from this session. Yes, they were catkins, compost can spontaneously combust but it is very rare and the stalks on snails heads are called antenna. Good Gym = Getting Fit, Helping the Community and Learning Stuff 😀
