Flying the flag!

2 goodgymers made their way to help volunteer at the annual Race for Life event on Southampton Common, a series of races which raises money for Cancer Research UK.

Abby and Lauren were tasked as being part of the start line team, seeing off the thousands of runners, joggers and walkers who were taking on the 10k, 5k and 3k routes.

Led by start area manager Joe he briefed us and some other volunteers regarding what our roles were to be for the next hour or so.

We were tasked with marshalling the runners into the start pen, using a staggered system of runners, joggers and then walkers by carrying some very heavy flags into the crowd and safely escorting the participants to the start line. This was tricky at times due to the rain and high wind which had set in during the 5k start!

The atmosphere was inspirational with several smiles and lots of dancing!

Abby was staying on to help setup the pretty muddy obstacle course and continue flying the goodgym flag!
