Five runners ran 8km to finish off our tyre wall project at Saffron Acres Community Heathland

Another lovely task in the sunshine and more good done in our local community tonight. We were delighted to welcome Martin back to the group for his first group run since 2017, hopefully it won't be so long before we see you again Martin!

After a warm run along the river and through Aylestone to the task we managed to get through the usually impenetrable padlock and into the site. It was our third visit this year to Saffron Acres and we completed our work emptying the EARTH from the TYRES used to build a wall around their pond. Despite an unusually low turn-out the fabulous five got stuck in and managed to get an impressive amount of work done once again. At one point Lindsay discovered a baby we don't know what it was (any animal experts please look through the pics and let me know) which melted our hearts as it wriggled around on Jimmy's hand. Hopefully we found the right microhabitat to enable it to grow and prosper.

With our work complete and the area looking so different from our arrival we enjoyed a drink and some fruit generously provided by Mel before taking the more direct route back to DMU along Saffron Lane as the WIND picked up. We noted on the run back that we passed three other 2019 task locations on our run back giving us chance to reflect on the different areas of Leicester in which we make a positive difference.

Next week we crack on with delivering more event booklets for our friends at LOROS, most likely around Braunstone Gate, and Narborough Road. I think a relaxing cold drink in the Black Horse afterwards could be appropriate (seeing as we'll no doubt be asking them to put some booklets on their bar) if people are keen.

Finally we wish good luck to regular runner Irene who tackles her first marathon in Edinburgh this week and to Dave and Mel who are heading up to Liverpool for the Rock n Roll Half. You'll all smash it, can't wait to hear about it next week!
