Ready to rock the Roastery, 14 gorgeous Goodgymers, rolled up their sleeves, for an evening of valiant volunteering and furious, fitness fun. POW POW.

This week Peckham's finest showed up and showed out, to task for our very own home-base hosts "Old Spike Roastery" and their social enterprise "Change Please". Sorting and clearing the storage shop next door where they keep all their coffee shop goodies. And by the way - What a seriously amazing and completely inspiring Goodgym cause to give back to, as this business is set up to teach homeless people in London, the skills they need to become coffee experts and begin their new life as "Change Please" Barista's!! Incredible.

So raring and ready to go, the crew buckled up for the epic journey ahead, the whopping 1 meter run, next door and boyyyyy did it get our pulses....ummmmm staying at a normal rate.

Upon arrival our fantastic host Carlos revealed the state of disarray that awaited us. A gigantic mountain of barista bedlam; boxes and beverage making equipment strewn all over the place, like a crazy clustering of coffee creation chaos, desperately in need of some orderly arrangement.

So wasting no time at all, the team set to work;

  • Crushing

  • Shifting

  • Blitzing

  • Heavy Lifting

Thankfully with a team as motivated as mine, I could concentrate my efforts on some fancy photography and that I did, capturing all of the action this Boxing Day! Oh yes and Coops even had time to scare me senseless with a Cornflake Box Mouse-Hunt and BOOOO Situation. Cheesy and Very Mature!!! LOL

As the time etched away, it became clear that the theme of the night was Power - Power Lifts, Power Tools and Girl Power..... It was International Women's Day after all. With this in mind, the fierce and fabulous Southwark females interjected some fitness fun into the tasking blast too, with; Pike planking on wheeley office chairs and drop squat heavy equipment lift shuffles. BOOM We even had time to throw shapes to the party tunes i blasted out and it was all the moves - Big fish, little fish.... Cardboard Box....

40minutes down and there wasn't much more we could have done "Change achieved? Yes Please" However next time we will be back to blitz and clean and make the place gleam with more of our awesome action! Thanking our host at the fabulous Roast, it was onto the next mission..... The 1 mile time trial and WOD (workout of the day).

With Helena at the helm tracking the distance (technology fail from me as per!) start points swapped and changed not once, not twice, but thrice..... until the perfect straight was in our sights - a one mile track, NOW the real work could begin.

3,2,1 and their off!!!! Like blurs of red into the night the team tore their way through the night, racing, not each other, but themselves to the finish line. And what a finish line, ending on a hill, the crew displayed so much gusto the British Military Fitness folks on the adjacent field were even stopped in their tracks to stare on in awe!!!

Huffing, puffing and steaming their way to the line, they rolled in thick and fast, dashing of times quicker than the number 63 bus that trailed behind them.

With 15minutes spare no-body wanted to end the session there and with only a minutes rest after the time trial, the team got down to the WOD - X10 Walking lunges followed by X10 press ups seven rounds for time! With every single person coming in under 7 mins Incredible

With that last epic blast behind us now, there was only one thing left to do - Cool down jaunt back to base and stretch, recouping under the glowing lights of our beloved Roastery once more!

These Peckham peeps be: Powerful, passionate, purposeful and proud and I for one am delighted to be joining such a fantastic family!

See you next time!!

DO GOOD. FEEL GOOD. INSPIRE
