Jo and I were joined by Mr R’s neighbour Mr B for todays task. We were supposed to be meeting a volunteer from the Red Cross to help move some furniture for Mr R, but she was caught up with another client, and most fortunately Mr B had keys to help us complete the task.

Mr R has had several hospital admissions, and now needed a hospital bed, so our job this fine Friday evening was to move his old bed across the hall into his spare room to make space for the new one to be delivered. Mr B let us in, and although the initial plan was to move the bed across the way, Mr B thought it best if we move the mattress to the garage. His thoughts were that it would still allow space to access the spare room, and that the mattress was getting on a bit, and would probably need getting rid of.

One thing that both Jo and I have found during our GoodGym ‘careers’ is that there is still a sexiest wall to break down. Mr B was lovely, but started with the ‘I was expecting two burly men to be coming’… We had a point to prove now!

First things first, we stripped the bed and folded up the sheets and blankets with our womanly touch. The mattress overlay went across to the space room, and Jo & I manoeuvred the double mattress down two flights of stairs and into the garage with Mr B looking on impressed.

The second job was to break up the divan bed - luckily Mr B had some screwdrivers, and we worked out quickly that the bed could be unlocked if the catch was unscrewed. We let Mr B help out with this bit, and soon the large bed was folded into two, and easily passed along the corridor and tucked into the corner of the spare room.

We finished the task with a quick run around of the hoover. There was a lot of dust amongst other things hiding under where the bed once was (half a shortbread finger anyone?). Carpets straightened up, and a thanks from us to Mr B (and vice versa) we proved that the ladies were just as good as any man.
