19 Goodgymers ran 4-6km to help C4WS and Cecil Sharp House!

Welcome along to Sophie whose first time it was last night - great to have you along.

In the news this week:

  1. Well done to all the Big Halfers on the weekend - both racers and volunteers!
  2. Camden was the 3rd GoodGym and we are trying to visually represent this number as part of the celebration of our 50th GoodGym next week.
  3. There are two community missions on Sunday - one in Camden and another in Islington - no dbs check needed for either.

After our intro we warmed up and got all dynamic for an evening of fun and good! Splitting into two teams, Kat took a group to Cecil Sharp House and I took a other group to C4WS.

C4WS Report:

Seven of us set off to the homeless shelter to make 14 beds, we met Frances there as she walked - nice! Upon our arrival we got to work making 18 beds for the guests staying there that night. With 14 in the main hall and 4 in a smaller room.

While everyone was busy with bedmaking I was trying to think existentially about representing 3 in the way of beds, like modern really. Well it ended up not really working but we used lots of running shoes to represent it instead - which worked well!

After completing our bed making we headed to Bedford Square for some intervals - 3 fast loops of the square, the first one a meet & retreat and the other two conventional intervals. Everyone did great!

We finished with a jog home and a stretch before the pub.

Creatively challenged!

Katie's Cecil Sharp Report:

Led by Kat, a team of ten headed off at a sharp pace to Cecil Sharp House, sharing stories from recent GoodGym races, and getting excited about more upcoming trips.

Once there, the wonderfully organised Suzanne was ready with a quick explanation of how important the gardens are to Cecil Sharp House, and a run-down of what was needed this week to help out with maintaining the grounds.

The front of house team quickly got to work clearing the lawn of twigs and other debris after Sunday’s rough winds shook the darling buds of March (and most of the rest of London, as some of our GoodGym Big Half runners could attest to!) and soon made the garden look neat and tidy again.

Meanwhile, at the main entrance, a second team were tasked with clearing the garden terraces, sweeping several bag-fuls of mulch and other winter wonders out of the flower beds, and reorganising all the pots and plants neatly into trays before putting it all back together and leaving it practically sparkling.

Speaking of sparkle, both teams inadvertently played at detectorists this week, with the exciting unearthing of a silver (possibly) diamond (maybe...) ring nestled among the nettles, and a major haul of 52p in change from the lawn clear up! Hopefully the rightful owners will be reunited with their treasure soon.

We finished off with a glamorous extended photo shoot to show off our Camden launch number, rounding off a lovely evening’s work - which this week was all set to the soothing sounds of a violin recital!

Sign up for next week here when we'll be helping Coram Fields and C4WS for the penumilate time this season.
