Frances and I were tasked with moving a bed from one room to the next to make space. The OT and Mr I's physiotherapist were waiting outside in the delightful midday sunshine.

We got kitted out (gloves and aprons) courtesy of the OT who was very well prepared. After some quick clearing of bedding and transferring a couple of mattresses to the next room, we unearthed the bed which had a very light frame fortunately. Unfortunately it was a rather tight doorframe and hallway which combined a rather normal sized bedframe meant no matter what we tried there was just no way to get the bed into the room. With the help of the physio we managed to get it into the hall but it was just impossible to coerce it into the adjacent room.

So it was clear that we would have to dismantle the bed but as we had earlier established despite a veritable toolbox of screwdrivers and spanners, we were missing the only thing that would work - an allen key.

Once it became apparent it wasn't going to work without dismantling the bed, the OT kindly offered to drive to nearby Argos to source what we needed, whilst we battled with futility trying the bed at all angles. She was back surprisingly quickly clutching a single allen key which remarkably was the perfect size, and meant we could get the job done in a matter of minutes.

How did she manage to get the key so quickly? On her way to the car she bumped into a builder on the estate who was suitably tooled up. Serendipitously, I'm going to assume he was definitely called Allen, or at the very least Alan.
