A little help for the lovely Ms G

1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Southwark.

Early morning this morning can only be characterised as one thing. Grey.

Grey sky, grey toast, grey tea, grey-bloomin'-everything. Grey, grey, grey, grey.

If you'd said, 'Alex, hey! How you doing!?' I'd have said, 'Grey, grey-bloomin'-grey!'

Plus maybe, 'Why are you in my house?' But let's not get into that and let's get back to this morning where, safe to say, I was feeling a little grey. Even wore grey too.

And that was how I and everything was as I set out from Deptford for SE15. Just me and the grey, all under a big ol' blanket of rain. Lovely.

But, and is with all good Hollywood stories, things would get better. The skies cleared, the sun shone, people danced, and I got a ticket to the chocolate factory. Result!

Okay, okayyyy, you most scrupulous of readers!! Maybe that didn't happen. But it certainly did get a lot better. And it started when I got to Ms G's. She is one of the lucky few who just seem to emit an aura of warmth, and after just the quickest of socially-distant natters, I left for the shops with shopping list in hand and under a sky that didn't seem as dark as it had been. Actually, not very dark at all.

And it was at that point, feeling pretty darn good and just as I was reaching the supermarket, that I jumped up, clicked my feet together, and burst into song. I can't remember exactly what it was, but it was one of those sing-a-long-feel-real-good numbers that everyone knows. Boy, you should have seen it, all the people in the queue singing, some tapping their trolleys, others stomping their feet. One lady even did a solo. Boy, it was the best time eve...

... what... say again... okay, fine dear reader, fine, you just go and take ALL the fun out of it why don't you! And stop distracting me, you're just a big bad influence, making me be so silly. Enough of this, I say! For I have some serious mission writing to finish.

A quick jaunt around the supermarket was all it took to grab Ms G's essentials and I made it back to hers within the hour. Her warmth and kindness made it seem as if I'd done something big. But I knew I hadn't. It was Ms G, still warm, kind, and smiling despite her self-isolating, who did the hard work. And her effort meant that my day was genuinely 10 shades brighter.

Thank you, Ms G.
