Help the centre with tree planting and conservation
Location

Date and time
13:00 - 15:00It's that time of year again, when we think about what we are leaving for the next generation, and start our tree planting activities.
There will be no taskforce available for this session but please do go along and help sholing valleys if this interests you!
If you've not planted a tree before, come and find out the best way to do it. We'll be talking about why these trees are important for wildlife, what different trees like from their habitat and how to care for them after they are planted. We'll start the day with a quick winter ID walk, and discuss the different biodiversity benefits of a few species of trees, what their uses are, and the folklore surrounding them. Training will be given at the start of the session. All abilities are welcome, whether you're a complete beginner or an expert. A full tool safety talk is also given at the start of each session. We will be following the advice in this video, and using the slit technique. We don't use canes or tree guards. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtYd8cMWAUQ&t=212s
Conservation tasks will be:
Planting the young willow that we grew on from our own cuttings.
Planting trees donated by the Woodland Trust and The Conservation Volunteers (TCV).
Removing old wire fencing from around the reserve.
Painting the wooden benches and posts to preserve them for another year.
Litter picking: The less litter there is the less likely people are to drop it!
The reserve is run by our wonderful team of volunteers. We would not be able to manage without your help, and every act makes the site better. We appreciate all of you.
