Social visits for music lover Mr K

Windsor & Maidenhead Adult Social Care (occupational therapy) has asked us to arrange social visits for Mr K. He is struggling with social isolation since Covid. He was very active however he can't drive to day centres and nothing is in walking distance. He enjoys having a cup of tea and a chat, drawing, bowls and walking. His granddaughter currently supports him however lives a long distance away, so only sees him every other weekend. He has numerous interests including music, art, sports and he used to be in the RAF. He is a little hard of hearing.

PLEASE NOTE Mr K's granddaughter let us know that he can sometimes make remarks that she described as 'harmless' but that might offend a visitor- such as asking them out for a drink. We do not believe this poses a risk to any volunteer but will monitor it closely.

Mr K's niece visits him every other weekend so may be present for some of the visits.

Not all homes have been risk assessed by the referrer or GoodGym and, although we will always give you as much information as we can before the mission, the home environment may still not be as expected, or may have changed. Remember that you do not have to enter, or remain in, the property if you do not feel comfortable. We recommend that you review your social visits training regularly as this contains advice on lone working and reporting concerns.

GoodGym has listed this mission for one or two volunteers. Two GoodGymers can go together, but the mission will still go ahead with one if only one person signs up by the deadline. If you are concerned about going solo, please do not feel under pressure to attend. Instead, please send us an email to missioncontrol@goodgym.org. If you let us know, we will not confirm it unless we have a second volunteer.
