Barking Food Forest
Barking Food Forest is a community gardening project in Barking Riverside that benefits local children, young people, families and wider residents of all ages by running activities around wellbeing, arts and growing sessions.

๐Ÿ† Barking Food Forest is the #1 commuity growing garden in Barking & Dagenham, providing garden space for residents to grow their own food and take part in a calendar of community activities.

๐Ÿ‘€ On Saturday 10 October, they are hosting a Community Open Day and have asked GoodGym B&D to help.

๐Ÿช˜You'll get to enjoy some refreshments at the event, and also have the option to join in with the African drumming and group singing!

๐Ÿ‘‰ Come along & meet some other cool locals, spend time in nature and get some physical activity. Check out a recent Insta reel of one of sessions at the Forest here for a flavour of what to expect

๐Ÿงค What Weโ€™ll Do

  • help finish building the new tewrrace outside the green house (using tools, lifting timbers)

  • litter picking

  • weeding

  • watering

No experience needed! All tools and guidance will be provided on the day.

๐Ÿ•• Timings

  • 09:00 - (optional) meet at Lakeview Cafe & Kitchen in Barking Park for Barking Park Run, a 5km run with 100s of other local residents. Supportive, inclusive and with a walking option as well as 20% discount at the cafe for completing the run! Afterwards, travel together by public transport to Barking Food Forest.

  • 10:30am - arrive at Barking Food Forest ready for instructions and safety briefing

  • 10:35 - 11:25 - task time

  • 11:25 - 11:30 โ€“ wrap-up and high fives

  • 11:30am โ€“ finish (with the option to stay on and continue helping)

๐ŸŒž Why It Matters

The Community Day is a fantastic opporutnity to promote the garden to more local residents and showcase what this fantastic green space has to offer. By volunteering on the day with some key gardening tasks - event particpants will get to see what hard work looks like and (hopefuly) be tempted to come and get intolved in the garden again!

Come along for a relaxed and friendly morning of volunteering โ€“ no experience needed, just bring your energy and community spirit, see you there!!
