16 amazing runners ran 3km to help out at the Ballast Quay Garden!

We had 4 new runners join us last night! Welcome to Alice, Alistair, Nathan & Chi! Hope you all had a nice first run with us!

Every Wednesday starts off the same, with a few laps of the quad. Ben had already taken a mini group out before the rest of us made it, so they were extra warmed up much to Marta's disappointment!

A few mobility exercises and some basic drills followed by a game of BANANA TAG with a difference..... we went to the other quadrant.... WOOOO!

We ran around for a few minutes catching and peeling bananas and then set off on our proper run! Since Ballast Quay is just a stones through away we went the long way round, through the uni and up through the park, may as well make the most of it while it's open eh!

Minutes later, we arrived at the lovely garden greeted by the even lovelier Diane who has looked after the garden for many many years and what an amazing job she does. She is getting ready for the London Open Garden Squares event on 9th & 10th June so please pop down if you are in the area!

There were a few jobs that needed doing. The main one being the pruning of the holly bush... I think it was holly, it had spiky leaves anyway! There was also a large stone which needed moving from one end of the garden to another and with a little bit of #girlpower that job was done in a flash! The lawn needed a mow and the place generally just needed a bit of a tidy up!

Everyone grabbed whatever tool was on offer, a broom, a rake, some shears, and got stuck in!

I love coming here because Diane is always so amazed by all the work we do and is so appreciative, which is always nice. After half an hour, all of the big jobs were done so we took a nice photo by the river, had a drink and ran back to the uni for a little bit of a workout to wake up some of our other muscles!

As part of Chi's GG tourism, he is aiming to do a local Strava segment as well as a core routine at each one so after my 6 minutes of burpees, sit ups and squat jumps came a further few minutes just to finish of the abs! After the longest plank maybe ever, and some scissor kicks we were done! We had a little stretch on the grass, managed to even grab a photo with the mayor, smashed a glass (ha!) and called it a night!

GoodGym Olympics!

Here is the form to fill in if you want to take part in the legendary GoodGym Olympics!! It takes place on Saturday 30th June and there is an event for everyone! It'd be great to get as many of you there as possible!

FB group

Also for the new runners amongst you, please join our Facebook group as people are posting races and other bits and pieces in there all the time so it's a great way to get involved!

Well done for getting stuck in yesterday! DIane was SO pleased with everything you got done, she manages that whole place by herself so all the work you did was a great help to her. See you on the next one!
