The shale courts at Grove Tennis Club are gentler on knees and allow people to play into older years. GoodGym are going to support this by helping to get the courts prepped, allowing the club to open the club for tennis early in the spring.
Grove Tennis Club is at risk of closing due to financial pressures, so it is important that the courses are playable as soon as possible to help secure the future of the club. The club is a real social hub for members, some who have been there for over 40 years. As Huddersfield oldest tennis club (established 1906), if it were to close a piece of history in Huddersfield would be lost!
GoodGym’s input could help keep this fantastic little club going for another year. We’ll be sweeping the courts to remove moss, debris and weeds, laying shale clay down and rolling the court with a hand push roller. There may also be some weeding and pruning to do of trees that align the courts.

New to GoodGym?
This is a GoodGym group run, where we run to help a local community organisation and then run back.
New GoodGymers are welcome to GoodGym group runs - no one gets left behind. You're unlikely to be alone, hundreds of new people sign up every week.

Due to the current wet weather it’s not possible to work effectively on the shale courts, so unfortunately this task is postponed. However we’ll be back at Grove Tennis Club on Tuesday April 4th for our first “light night” session of the spring.
The alternative session will be a plogging run from the Stadium, please sign up as usual for this task.
