Community mission

Parkwood Forest Garden Gardening Session #11 - Dec 2019

Helping maintain a beautiful community space and permaculture project

This is a community mission, a community led session where you will meet other GoodGym members at the task. Please make yourself known to anyone in a GoodGym top when you arrive. As with all GoodGym sessions we encourage you to use the power of your legs to get there, i.e. run or walk if you can.

Join us this month to celebrate 10 years of Parkwood Springs since its creation in 2009, Treemendous Tim's Sheffield City Council leafing (leaving) event and Celine the GG running machine's birthday! Plus for those of you liking fancy dress to celebrate we will be dressing up as green(forest) men and women with the award going to the biggest antenai to finish off our foresty outfits so close to the winter solstice.

In volunteering with Sheffield City Council, we have found out about Parkwood Forest Garden. Like our Alexandra Road Community Garden (ARGT) community missions where we support their regular monthly garden maintenance mornings, it would be great to support Sheffield City Council (SCC) in this way at the Parkwood Forest Garden, and other SCC events.

Parkwood Forest Garden is a beautiful calm space and a productive permaculture project. It is a young forest garden developed by Sheffield City Council in association with volunteers. The Forest Garden is a productive managed woodland, which produces food for both people and wildlife. Maintenance activities generally include: weeding, mulching and pruning.

Meet at Parkwood Springs Forest Garden car park (10.45am) (opposite flats 104-138), Shirecliffe Road, S5 8XB and walk over to the garden at 11.00am. If you would like to come along, but can only make part of the session please do come along. It’s a 5 minute walk to the garden from the car park, we can provide directions to the garden. (please note: there are no toilets on site)

Volunteers break at 1.00pm, you can bring your own drink and snack or food to share. There is usually a hot drink too :) It has been lovely sharing food together 😊 The gardening session is due to finish at around 2.00 pm. All tools and appropriate training are provided. Please wear sturdy shoes, warm clothes in winter, and come and join us.

New to GoodGym?

This is a GoodGym group run, where we run to help a local community organisation and then run back.

New runners are welcome to GoodGym group runs - no one gets left behind. You're unlikely to be alone, hundreds of new people sign up every week.

There's a place to leave bags and a toilet at the start point, all you need to do is bring your trainers. It's free to try - get involved!
