East Ham Nature Reserve East Ham Nature Reserve has a large population of lizards and slow worms, small mammals and a wide variety of mini-beasts. They need sunny open grassland to survive. The open areas at the Nature Reserve are being taken over by trees, brambles and ivy. We need your help to maintain it. There are tasks for all abilities from gentle gardening to challenging tree cutting. Please come and join us.

East Ham Nature Reserve Heritage and Conservation Volunteers AKA Green Gym

Meet on the last Saturday of each month

They maintain the diversity of habitats at the nature reserve. They do a variety of tasks from digging out brambles to planting wildflowers and clearing ivy from gravestones and paths. You can also learn to do more specialised tasks like hedge laying, coppicing and scything. There is something suitable for everyone and you can work at your own pace.
