Huge shouts out to Denis, Avril, Mike, and Hazel

This week we were very pleased to be joined by a few new comers. Huge shouts out to Denis, Avril, Mike, and Hazel. A pleasure having you on the squad guys!! So this week we were headed over to the Markfield Project, which is a community centre that has a focus on providing services for disabled people and their families. The wider community also use the centre’s services, which include bicycle workshops, cooking clubs and a safe fun environment for service users to attend. There’s also a pretty cool BMX/skate park which is just beside the Markfield Project. The skate park is actually part of the old sewer system for which the centre was the old pump house.

reminiscent conversation about retro music, cartoons and 90’s TV

After a quick briefing, some introductions and a warm up we were off en route to the centre, which is tucked away behind a small industrial area off of Broad Lane. On arrival, we wasted no time in getting ourselves organised to weed the flowerbed at the centre’s entrance. The flowerbed was very very over grown. We focused on one half of the flowerbed to ensure we would get at least half of it done. However, the squad was having none of it and ploughed through it, managing to get the whole thing done. Fantastic work guys. While everyone worked away I whipped round to get the silly faceoff comp pics. As I did so there was lots of banter, laughter and a reminiscent conversation about retro music, cartoons and 90’s TV.

taking on the Markfeild Mound as part of our fitness session

As they say “time flies when you’re having fun” and that was the case here. Before we knew it we had run out of time but we were pretty chuffed about clearing the flowerbed of weeds. We then took a look at the old sewer system before taking on the Markfeild Mound as part of our fitness session. We split the group into pairs then as one member of each team did reverse dips the others ran around, up and then back down the mound to tag their partner, they then swapped. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the challenge. Shouts out to Ollie and Hazel who managed to come in first although it was very close. Great effort here everyone! Oh and out to Denis with his pro tumbling skills. That done we had a round of high fives before heading back to HQ for a warm down and some stretches.

chomp on some delicious pizza

We then met Sarah, who was recovering from racing her heart out at the Hackney Half, and headed over to Styx to chomp on some delicious pizza provided by the Loven crew.

Last but not least sending one more shout out to Keith the task owner. Thanks for accommodating us.

Until next week stay fit, do good and look out for the light.
