Who this task will support
Sustainable Merton
As Merton's local environmental charity, we aim to inspire, mobilise and enable our community to take action on climate change and protect our environment for future generations. Sustainability and wellbeing go hand in hand, so our projects address both environmental and social goals, such as addressing the cost of living crisis and strengthening community connections. We believe that a happier, healthier, more connected community is one that will have the greatest impact.

We will be boosting the team of volunteers and helping with fundraising collections and spreading the word about Merton's Community Fridge and Sustainable Merton to passers by.

Please aim to arrive 5 minutes before the session starts for a briefing. On arrival search out the Sustainable Merton team/stall and ask for Siobhan or Caroline,

The Community Fridge diverts over 70,000kg of surplus food from waste every year - this prevents over 250,000 kg of CO2 emissions. ● "Every year, the Community Fridge saves enough CO2 to match taking 500 transatlantic flights out of the sky — just by giving good food a second chance." ● "The carbon we save is the equivalent of taking around 650 cars off Merton's roads for an entire year." ● We support over 1,200 Merton residents facing food insecurity and provide the equivalent of over 188,000 meals ● We are part of Sustainable Merton which has six community-led projects across the borough (example Repair Cafes, Pre-Loved Studio, Merton Garden Streets) ● All donations go directly to supporting the Fridge and our community programmes ● Our charity number is: 1156639

Even if you can't make it along to volunteer do share the event details and encourage others to stop by and support the event in any way that you can.
