Sustainable MertonThe creation of Mitcham Community Orchard, led by Sustainable Merton in partnership with Merton Council as part of the Dig Merton initiative, inspired 200 residents and 12 local partners and businesses to help transform a derelict area of spare land into an award-winning community orchard with 30 different varieties of fruit trees, 7 raised beds, ponds, a soft fruit collection and a wildflower meadow.
Come along and join other volunteers and get involved in growing, gardening and related jobs. Bring gardening gloves if you have some and dress for the weather (suncream and hat) as we will be outdoors. At this time of year please carry water and take it easy if it's hot. On arrival ask for Katie.
Note that it's Action Day so the session will continue until around 2pm and there will be activities going on including a Bee Friendly workshop (more details here) so a reason to invite or bring friends/family along but do use the sign up link on the Sustainable Merton website so they have an idea of numbers).
