22 bubbley GoodGymers ran 6k to Mabley Green community garden to shovel, bag, carry, lay and rake a cubic tonne of mulch to put 50 baby trees to bed for the winter! Then 12 hungry Goodgymers scooted around the corner to get our eat on at the local Turkish restaurant!

We began the evening by welcoming 5 GoodGym first timers to the fold, really great to have you all along for the run and hope to see you all again very soon!!

The weather fairies had been super kind to us as Hurricane Angus had passed and we were left with a crisp late Autumn evening which was perfect for the epic running and task ahead!

After a pre session talk mainly talking through the various GoodGym social events coming up pre Christmas ( 9th December GoodGym members party in Battersea Arts centre, 13th December Hackney Christmas social).

We set about our first good deed of the evening trying to locate a lost GoodGym newbie in London Fields but after a mob search we came up empty but hope to see Her next week! A little pulse raiser and mixed in a dynamic warm up with road crossings of Mare Street. After activating muscles and joints we picked up the pace as we stretched out down Hommerton High street to meet Jonny from the Mabley Green user group at the tool shed opposite the park. We grabbed the tools and marched over to the first pile of mulch on Mabley Green. Splitting into teams we had Team Rake, Team Shovel and Team Shifter.

We shovelled at a super rate filling the blue bags from everyone's favourite Scandinavian furniture store and wheel barrows before the Shifters ran them the 100 metres to the trees and unloaded before the rakers did their thing smoothing the mulch out around the baby trees.

20 minutes in we had finished the first mulch pile and moved into pile two picking up the pace again for the final 20 minute push! The shovelling pace stayed high and the shifters, shifted quicker even with lots of talk of fancy dress and 2017 running goals and races!

A final few loads and we had smashed 40 minutes of top notch GoodGym physical task action! Heading back to the shed we even had time for a team picture before splitting up into two groups for the run back to base. Peter lead the Steady runners keeping a strong pace replicating the first mile of the Hackney Half Marathon while the Speedy crew got an extra treat with a slightly longer loop down the narrow way at a top pace! Perfect timing as we all regrouped outside Hackney Empire finishing of the run together before a well deserved static stretch out!

Great to have 12 of the crew head out to get a well deserved feed at our monthly Social at Tad Turkish restaurant. Great to see so many runners come along!!

Next week we are laying the foundations (digging a big hole) for our Polly Tunnel instillation at the Hackney Wick community garden!! We need your help making a great project happen to please Sign up and come along here for a great task!!

Have a great active and fun week, See you same time same place next Tuesday!

Smooth Shifting

Joel
