Please note that this community mission has been cancelled.

Williamson Tunnels is Liverpool's most extensive yet mysterious archaeological site. Come and discover the tunnels then lend a hand with the dig.

In the unsuspecting back streets of Edge Hill, deep underground, there exists a series of extensive subterranean excavations, of unknown purpose. Volunteer group, the Friends of Williamson Tunnels, have spent over 20 years uncovering new spaces and discovering artifacts as they excavate ever more tunnels.

We have been invited to join the Friends group for a tunnels tour before spending an hour on the dig.

Important: This is very messy work so wear your most sturdy trainers (or other suitable footwear), oldest running kit and a decent pair of gloves. The tour includes going deep underground in tunnels. Mostly it feels spacious and light but this task may not be suitable for those who suffer from claustrophobia and/or vertigo. There are varying levels of the dig so enthusiastic folks can get hands-on (and very dirty!) under ground, while other people will prefer to stay above ground helping to raise and empty buckets.

We need to give FoWT an idea of numbers in advance so please sign-up ASAP.

How are you getting there?
