6 do gooders took on a 2k run and task for the Friends of Tottenham Green

Huge shout out to Dave for taking the helm last week

First up was Dashing Dave and as we discussed him leading the previous weeks session the rest of the crew arrived. Huge shout out to Dave for taking the helm last week. I really appreciate it – your report looked great. After a quick warm up (lead by Dave) I briefed everyone then we hit the streets. There were a few questions regarding the distance of our run before we left as the actual task was a few hundred yards from our HQ. This, of course would not be a sufficient work out for us so we took the scenic route in the opposite direction along Philip Lane, down Laurence Road and West Green Road before heading up Tottenham High Road where the task was located. Well done on this guys – nice pace!

impressive looking…

On arrival we were greeted by this weeks light Laura - a very passionate local who takes time out to maintain the Tottenham Green grassed area along with the park on the opposite side of Tottenham High Road. The park opposite is where we’d be grafting on this occasion. Laura had already loaded up some pretty impressive looking gardening specific trolley’s with the tools etc needed for the job at hand. We then took a trolley each and navigated our way down the High Road. As we did so Laura told me of the FoTG plans to get a zebra crossing installed near the junction of Philip Lane and Tottenham High Road as there had been a number of accidents near that junction.

along with the beginnings of a blister or two

Once at the park Laura briefed us and we got straight to work picking up litter, sweeping fag butts and breaking up/turning soil along a long stretch of flowerbed. After filling three bin liners with rubbish everyone took their hand to breaking/turning the earth on the flowerbed. This was pretty physical work but the team worked very hard to get things done, only stopping to admire a few artifacts that were unearthed - one of which bore a H for Haringey. With lots of banter along with the beginnings of a blister or two we managed to get the entire flowerbed done. Laura and her fellow volunteers were super happy. Laura showed her appreciation many times during the task and on our short walk back to the FoTG HQ. It was an absolute pleasure Laura. We look forward to returning again soon.

Shouts out to Andy the Silly Face Off Comp Winner

We were literally back at GGH HQ by this point so we headed in to Tottenham Green Leisure Centre to warm down and lastly but by no means least award Andy with his Silly Face off comp price. Well done Andy – great face pulling skills!!

Until next week folks – stay fit do good and look out for the light!
