Berry Brow Carnival is coming, the annual event is scheduled for Saturday 15th June and GoodGym were called in to help spread the word. The plan was to blitz the local area with flyers raising awareness and encouraging people to take part in the carnival which brings the local community together.

Whilst the carnival is coming, unfortunately the flyers advertising it weren’t. At 6:30pm last night we had 6 keen GoodGymmers raring to go and no flyers to post. Fortunately following a few frantic phone calls the flyers arrived, and about 20 minutes later we were on our way.

Running from our alternative start point of Lockwood Park Health & Fitness Club put us within easy reach of the Berry Brow area, a nice little 2K run with a little bit of off road action took us to the village of Armitage Bridge with its mix of higgedly piggledy Yorkshire cottages and newer houses. 6 GoodGymmers, 174 flyers to deliver and 60 minutes, could it be done?

Tonight’s team of Louise Galvin, Kati Law, Ben Godfrey, Meg Deacon and first time GoodGymmer Laura Merriman certainly thought so, and with hands full of flyers we divided up into teams and set about posting. Those experienced leafletters amongst our number had brought along wooden spoons or spatulas, and the point of these soon became apparent. The kitchen implements made levering stiff letterboxes quick and easy and avoided trapped fingers.....a top tip for future leaflet jobs, of which we have a number planned this summer.

Club Houses, Lake View, Top Row, Armitage Bridge certainly has some interestingly named streets and the GoodGymmers were getting busy finding cottages tucked away down the various alleys and ginnels. Those of you who have run the Huddersfield 10K will be familiar with Bankfoot, and Ben Godfrey and myself bravely scaled the 1 in 7 climb to post flyers to Woodbine Cottages at the top of the hill.

Fortunately the rain of earlier in the evening had held off, and by the time we had delivered the last of the leaflets the sun was out and the team were ready to run back to Lockwood Park. A sneaky shortcut gave some of us the edge over Ben who was flying down Wooodhead Road, and we arrived back feeling like we’d had another GoodGym night out.

Thanks to everyone who leafletted last night, if you missed it we’ll be doing the same again next Tuesday in Berry Brow. Meet 6:30pm at Lockwood Park Health & Fitness Club, keep your fingers crossed the flyers arrive on time this time!
