This is a new mission for Lewisham, and what a magical space it is! Grove Park Nature Reserve is the definition if a hidden gem - one of those amazing green spaces that are hidden all over our borough.

Our task was to clear an area in this beautiful space for some new beehives. Two Lewisham runners met with Paul, the beekeeper with the plan, and Mark, the man with the tools. We quickly got started and within an hour had made excellent progress. The four of us kept stepping back to view the progress with awe (plus it was deceptively hot and plenty of water breaks were needed).

During the continuous lopping, bashing and pulling out of giant brambles, Paul told us a little bit about bees. Did you know that honey is actually bee vomit? Who knew...? Beekeepers apparently...vomit never tasted so good.

Within 2 hours we had cleared the space required, made a lovely new home for these precious creatures, and made one very happy beekeeper! We were all rather pleased with our achievement, just another example of how Good Gym is contributing to the wellbeing of the planet by helping local bees thrive. Job well done!
