Cultivate Colindale & The House of Wayward Plants Reuse Centre
Cultivate Colindale is a new community space we're building for Heybourne Park! Designed and produced by Wayward, award winning designers and placemakers, in partnership with Energy Garden, the community solar and gardening non-profit, the green space will include a community tree nursery, allotments, biodiverse meadows, gardens and more. At the heart of Cultivate Colindale is a pioneering initiative - The House of Wayward Plants Reuse Centre. We rescue surplus plants, trees, and landscape materials from across London - and rehome them in community gardens, schools, and public green spaces. This is where they get a second life. Building on nearly a decade as the Official Reuse Partner of the Royal Horticulture Society, rehoming thousands of plants, trees and landscape materials from Chelsea Flower Show and Hampton Court Palace, we’re now putting down roots in Colindale so that we can expand our impact year-round. To date, we’ve rehomed more than 100,000 plants, trees and materials to over 1,000 community groups and schools - diverting more than 5,000 tonnes of waste from landfill! This is the next step in our story - having a space changes everything - we can expand our impact, diverting waste from the construction and horticultural industries to the communities that need it most.

We are helping build a connection between the New Citizens Gateway (NCG) and Cultivate Colindale (CC) at Heybourne Park.

NCG supports refugees with their needs, skills and community involvement. CC is a community garden in Heybourne Park managed by Wayward.

CC's volunteer manager, Anna, will be on site from 10am. They have regular volunteer sessions twice per week.

We'll meet by Colindale Tube Station at 09:55, on the corner of Charcot Road and Colindale Avenue. Exact meeting point on What3Words.

We'll then pick up volunteers from nearby accommodation and walk to Heybourne Park. Depending on mobility and numbers, we'll aim to arrive at Cultivate Colindale between 10:30 and 11am. You're welcome to meet us there. Exact location of the Cultivate Colindale entrance gate on What3Words.

As part of our commitment to supporting the volunteers, we will try to help them practise their English, as well as do some physical activity outdoors in nature to boost their wellbeing.
