11 do gooders took on a 3k run and task at the Markfield Project clearing the flowerbed of roots then took part in a plank off

Huge shouts out to Dennis, Sharon and Louise

Luckily the rain held off after a heavy downpour through out most of the afternoon. We all gathered at HQ - Tottenham Green Leisure Centre and as we did so I noticed a very smiley happy face, which looked familiar, heading towards us. It was the lovely Ali who had been running with us in Haringey since day dot. I can’t lie I was well chuffed to see her (and the bump). After a little catch up I got back to the group. Three new comers joined us this week. Huge shouts out to Dennis, Sharon and Louise. Welcome and props for braving the iffy weather guys. A quick warm up and briefing ensued before we headed off in search of the light.

digging, ripping and tugging

We were able to run in relatively dry conditions but I wondered if we should take on the Markfield Mound, as there was still surface water along the route there and on the mound itself. This wouldn’t stop us from having fun and doing a fitness session mind! On arrival, we dished out the hand tools and got stuck in digging, ripping and tugging at the roots left over from our last visit a fortnight ago. Everyone seemed to be making friends and good progress as they chatted away.

We were all packed up and ready to go

At this point, I had a whip round to take the silly faceoff comp pics, then decided we were not going to attempt the Markfield Mound and that it was a pretty good idea to do a plank off instead. With this in mind, I asked everyone to keep going for a few more minutes, as it wouldn’t take us too long to get back. We were all packed up and ready to go soon after so off we set en route back to HQ for our warm down/stretches but not before a round of high fives.

I’m yet to confirm but this may be a GoodGym record too

After a sprint finish, we arrived back at HQ. As we gathered to stretch Antonia mentioned that she needed to head off, being 8:30 and all, as did Dashing Dave. After stretching I let everyone know they could also make their way home then mentioned that anyone who had 5 or so minutes could join us in a plank off… Dave, who loves a challenge, seemed not to be in such a rush anymore and joined everyone else in what now seems to be a marathon planking session. Everybody did a really good job here and pushed themselves to their limit but one person took things to the next level and now holds a GGH planking record (I’m yet to confirm but this may be a GoodGym record too). Sharon held her plank for 6:09 – WOW! She wasn’t the only one who held on in there for over 5 minutes though. Hazel managed a pretty awesome plank for 5:04 or there abouts (I lost composure for a moment in all the excitement). Well done guys. Looks like the record sits in Haringey – for now.

Until next week folks – stay fit, do good and look out for the light.
