Welcome to GoodGym Warwick and Leamington Spa! We're a friendly and social group who combine exercise with helping out in the local community. We meet regularly to get active and do a physical task to help the charities, community organisations and projects in our area.
The Task:
This week we will be heading to Guys Cliffe House to help Bring Back Guys Cliffe with some tidying of the garden.
We've helped out at Guys Cliffe before but this session we will be joining the volunteers during the day to lend a helping hand.
Gloves and good footwear are essential. Please let me know if you don't have a pair of gloves and I can bring a spare.
The run/walk:
GoodGym is for everyone. We welcome runners of all abilities and it is often possible to walk to the task if you would prefer. We always have a back-marker so no-one is left behind - we're about achieving something together so you'll always be welcome no matter what your pace is.
For this task we will run approximately 2km from the meeting point to the task and back again afterwards (making a total run of 4km). If you would prefer to meet us at the task we should get to Guys Cliffe House at about 10:30. The task will be quite physical so everyone will get a good work out!
Where to meet
We will meet in the car park at St Nick's Park in Warwick (unless you prefer to walk or get there under your own steam, in which case meet at Guys Cliffe House at 10:30).
It is a decent run to Guys Cliffe, so we will aim to leave promptly after a brief warm-up.
When legends fade... Long, long ago when the world moved at a gentler pace the land and greenwoods harboured special places, evocative retreats where certain delights of nature stirred the soul... Guy’s Cliffe is one such place and it blossomed from such humble beginnings to have an Oratory founded here in the 5th Century and thereon it afforded shelter to the legendary 10th Century Guy of Warwick, resident chantry priests also made their home here in the middle ages amongst whom was the noted 15th Century antiquarian John Rous whose history the site is now mostly lost. Latterly the famous Georgian actress Sarah Siddons stayed here often in the welcoming bosom of the Greatheed family, who along with the succeeding Percy family did further embellish the location to see it become a country manor of some worth and intrigue... Ultimately and sadly though it ended up somewhat slighted for it suffered greatly at the hands of negligence and fire, but all was not lost... Its present owners rescued the 15th Century Chapel of St. Mary Magdalene and ancillary rooms in the 1970’s armed with limited resources but bountiful determination. Now the outer grounds need that same commitment and attention and indeed the determination is there but our resources are few... We really need your help!

This is a GoodGym group run. You'll meet other GoodGymers at the start location and run to the task together. If you can't run for more than 15 minutes without stopping or you're worried about any aspect of the session, contact us by email at warwick@goodgym.org.
The total distance of this group run is 4km.
Remember that we will be running to and from the task, so you'll only be running for half this distance in one go.
