Getting there

For this session we're going to meet at the task, so you'll need to make your own way there. We encourage you to walk, run, or cycle to do so!

    About this session

If you would like to volunteer please see the info below about also signing up on the Foodycle website as well as with GoodGym so that Foodcycle are aware of who is on site. You’ll be working with the rest of the hosting team to create a warm, welcoming environment for the guests. By serving a free meal created using surplus food, and sharing in conversation, you'll be helping to reduce hunger and loneliness in the community. You’ll be supported by a FoodCycle project leader and duties include setting tables, chairs, place mats and cutlery, serving food, sitting with the guests, clearing tables, washing dishes, serving tea and coffee, putting away tables and chairs. Please also sign up on the website so that they know to expect you, https://foodcycle.org.uk/location/foodcycle-mitcham/ Note, although the session time is 6-8.30pm, if you need to arrive later or finish earlier due to other commitments that's no problem.

    This task supports
    Foodcycle Mitcham
FoodCycle Mitcham is a community project that transforms surplus food into free, nutritious meals, offering a welcoming space every Thursday evening at Togetherness Community Centre for anyone seeking food and companionship.

Operating every Thursday evening at the Togetherness Community Centre in Mitcham, the project welcomes guests from all walks of life to share a hot meal and engage in friendly conversation in a warm, inclusive environment. The meals are prepared by dedicated volunteers using surplus food collected from local supermarkets and grocers, ensuring that perfectly edible food is diverted from landfill and put to good use. Volunteers take on various roles, including cooking, hosting, and food collection, all contributing to the creation of a welcoming space where guests can enjoy both nourishment and companionship. By fostering connections among community members and promoting sustainability, FoodCycle Mitcham not only provides immediate support to those facing hardship but also works towards building a more resilient and connected local community.
