Getting there

For this session we're going to meet at the task, so you'll need to make your own way there. We encourage you to walk, run, or cycle to do so!

    About this session

    St Mary-at-Finchley Churchyard Gardening Saturday 6th June | 14:00– 16:00

📍 St Mary-at-Finchley Church Hendon Lane Finchley London N3 1TR

Join us for a gardening session at one of Barnet’s most historic and beautiful sites.

St Mary-at-Finchley is the oldest church in the area, with parts of the building dating back to the 12th century. The churchyard contains many listed memorials and is a peaceful green space in the heart of Finchley — a place of history, reflection and community.

This session is hosted as part of the church's London Festival of Architecture week of events.

The gardening activity is facilitated by Helen, who has been doing fantastic work supporting the upkeep of this important site.

    Good to know

You’re very welcome to: • Come for the full session • Arrive late or leave early • Stay for as long or as short a time as you’re able

Every bit of help makes a difference.

This is a great opportunity to: • Support a historic Barnet landmark • Improve a shared community green space • Get outdoors and do something practical and meaningful

Would be lovely to see a few GoodGym Barnet faces there!

    A Church looking for assistance

he church was established sometime in the 12th century. There is reference to a church here in 1274, and evidence of a building even before then. By 1356 it was dedicated to St Mary.[2] The building has been altered many times since its foundation and the oldest parts, the north wall and the tower (which seems to have had a steeple during the 16th and 17th centuries), date from the reign of King Henry VII.
