This was my first time volunteering at the PWS forest garden and what a lovely little group it was. Well done to Amy on her first good deed (and running up that hill)!

This week's main job was pruning back most of the new growth on the fruit trees to avoid them becoming too big and bushy.

Not much fruit was on offer yet (and anything there was had already gone), apart from the very sour Sea Buckthorns. We sampled this superfood and also Bernadette's super food - pistachio macaroons. We pondered the definitions of macaroon and macaron, before a little more pruning and then home.

Our country park in the city

Parkwood Springs is an amazing natural 'wild' space close to the centre of the city of Sheffield. There is woodland and heath, open parkland, and a range of natural habitats where wild lupins bloom, kestrels hover, and deer have been seen again. There are spectacular views over the city centre, the suburbs and the distant moors of the Peak District.
