Periodically the lovely Ms Y asks me to check whether Garibaldi is back at the Co-Op, I always get confused between the Italian Revolutionary, Guiseppe, and the eponymous ‘squashed fly’ biscuits which for a while were manufactured midway on the route between where we live at Chiltonian Biscuits (now an industrial estate.
Neither were to be seen, although I may not have looked hard enough. I did offer her Bourbon biscuits but she didn’t want those - I guess because Garibaldi defeated a Bourbon army in Sicily in 1860 and she didn’t want biscuits that were second best. I could be wrong of course.
As for the rest of the shop, it was a a selection of the standard items on her list.
