It was the annual We Run Ealing/GoodGym Ealing collection of old running shoes at Gunnersbury parkrun. Our combined volunteers were on hand to make sure shoes were tied together and thrown into our sack. But that was not enough, our team also ran the parkrun and volunteered with barcode scanning.
Thanks to the generosity of our a local man with a van, the shoes are now on their way to Jog On, bound for a new purpose. The ones that can salvaged will be passed on to runners around the world who can't afford decent shoes. The rest will be broken down and recycled - a right result!
WE RUN EALING is the charitable arm of the award-winning Ealing Half Marathon. We deliver community-focused running initiatives, many of which are free and open to people of all abilities. Previously known as EHM Legacy, thanks to Ealing Half Marathon, we have done heaps of stuff over the last ten years to help get people moving in Ealing. We have had installed a new drinking fountain installed Lammas Park โ popular with humans and dogs! During lockdown we arranged events to encourage Ealing residents to run or walk to dozens of local parks. More recently we have brought the Blended Trails trail-running concept to Ealing and launched Ealingโs first ever Food Bank Run, in partnership with GoodGym and parkrun.
