On Saturday 10th May, I was visiting Swansea in order to watch Manic Street Preachers live. As I had seen them perform on the Friday, I stayed on to volunteer at some new parkrun locations.
Swansea Bay parkrun was holding their 408th event. I was out on the course marshalling, at a spot where the runners would leave the 'inner' part of the prom, and end up on the 'outer' part of the prom.
Marshalling was made slightly more complicated by the fact that over a ten hour period, the 'CARTEN 100 2025' cycle event was taking place. Now, parkrun's do usually take place in public areas where other park users could be on scooters, bicycles, with prams, or dogs, so obstacles and warnings are always to be expected. But, there was perhaps a few more hundred cyclists in the same part of the prom as the parkrunners at that particular moment in time. This was nothing that an experienced marshalling periodically shouting out 'BIKE' couldn't handle.
I'd like to give a special mention to Swansea Bay's regular parkrun volunteer, Malcolm, who was celebrating his 400th volunteer credit that day. Well done Malcolm!
