A few months ago I attempted to unleash my inner Daniel Day Lewis for the film version of this. This month it’s the novel by Hanif Kureishi who was born a few miles down the road in Bromley. Alas Dear Reader (mixing up my authors) the plot isn’t up to much… Man goes for run - run finishes at Ms E’s flat - man and Ms E chat, mainly about how Ms E’s ankle is progressing - Ms E gives the man the bag with the laundry and money to pay for the service wash - they promise to meet again with clean sheets and towels on Friday - man walks alongside busy road - man arrives at laundrette - manager recognises him, takes the washing and gives him a receipt - exit of man (not pursued by bear).
