Many reasons to rejoice at the Maidenhead Community Allotment this evening...

  • It was tipping it down all afternoon but by some miracle it was dry during our mission. 'Runner's luck' according to Meggie, who is surprisingly chipper about British weather considering she comes from sunny Italy.
  • The plants were looking absolutely glorious after all that rain. Check out Meggie's beautiful photo of the rain drops on a courgette leaf!
  • The bed we started digging over on Monday was much more complaisant today having had a good soaking in this grim weather so Amy and Meggie made satisfying progress there.
  • It was lovely to see Sut from Slough and to be able to congratulate her in person for reaching 100 good deeds on Saturday. Although it turns out that's old news now...she's done another 4 since then and signed up to loads more too. What a star!
  • And last but far from least, super-strong Sut managed to crack the walnut challenge! On Monday Claire started digging a hole for a little walnut tree that is out-growing its pot and made fantastic progress considering the rock solid ground. Amy asked Sut to do a bit more this evening and offered to do shifts if the going was tough, but nutty Sut powered on and soon the hole was declared the perfect depth and the tree was settled into its new home. We like Sut's attitude:

I walnut fail!

We will be back at the allotment on a regular basis so click here to check our listings and find out how you can get involved.

The Maidenhead Community Allotment is run by a group of volunteers, who grow food to share with local residents, the users of the Boyn Grove Community and Resource Centre and Maidenhead Foodshare. They work with Men in Sheds, who are based on the same site. Men in Sheds is an initiative to combat loneliness by providing a space for men to connect and chat over practical tasks.
