11 GoodGymers ran between 5-7km to leaflet for Green Gym and garden for Thornhill Square Gardens

Thank you all for coming on a slightly wet, even moist, evening. Great to see Jonathan back for his second week in a row and plenty of regulars back for Monday action.

Last night we had the wonderful Anna taking photos of us for wider GG publicity, exciting stuff!

Thornhill Square Gardens:

8 of us headed to the wonderful Thornhill Square Gardens, based in Barnsbury, to help the volunteers there with some gardening. After 2km of running and some photo’s taken on route we had arrived. Calling out “Anna, Anna?!” into the park we found the wonderful head of the volunteers and she explained our tasks for the evening:

  • Willowers - Julia and Lucy shaped, tied and arranged willows to create a decorative edging for a flower bed. Julia kept Lucy on track with the job!
  • Hoers - Kike, Jonathan and Claire hoed the weeds on two flower beds, some were easy to pull away, others not so much.
  • Sawers - James and Meg sawed, clipped away and cut back a dead bush.

The councils funding has been cut over the years so Thornhill Volunteers and our work is so important to maintain the community garden and space.

Two Anna’s!

After 25 mins we’d finished our work and decided to do a sprint around the square (approx. 400 metres). Well done everyone - good arms!

Green Gym leafleting:

Meanwhile Graham, Aidan and Ernie headed north to leaflet for Green Gym around the Sunnyside Community Garden and Caxton House area.

Biscuit time!

The team spread the word about the volunteering group who meet weekly to help maintain our local green spaces.

Sign up here where we’ll be helping Waterside Adventure Playground.

PB out.

A quiet oasis off Caledonian Road with plenty of space to picnic, rest, read, and walk a dog.

'A quiet oasis off Caledonian Road. Plenty of space (it is the largest square in Islington) to picnic, rest, read, admire the flowers shrubs and trees, and walk a dog. Volunteers, with the council are working to encourage healthy activities, including walking and yoga, and also to improve the diversity of wildlife in the park.'
