This evening’s donation proved a challenge, consisting mainly of bananas, peppers and pumpkins that lacked much flavour to work with. The starter unfortunately wasn’t ready in time, a learning moment for future events, but the team persevered as always. They served 19 guests a comforting pumpkin risotto followed by banana cake for pudding. Special mention goes to the kitchen newcomers, who handled the pressures of service with confidence and enthusiasm.

Foodcycle Mitcham
FoodCycle Mitcham is a community project that transforms surplus food into free, nutritious meals, offering a welcoming space every Thursday evening at Togetherness Community Centre for anyone seeking food and companionship.

Operating every Thursday evening at the Togetherness Community Centre in Mitcham, the project welcomes guests from all walks of life to share a hot meal and engage in friendly conversation in a warm, inclusive environment. The meals are prepared by dedicated volunteers using surplus food collected from local supermarkets and grocers, ensuring that perfectly edible food is diverted from landfill and put to good use. Volunteers take on various roles, including cooking, hosting, and food collection, all contributing to the creation of a welcoming space where guests can enjoy both nourishment and companionship. By fostering connections among community members and promoting sustainability, FoodCycle Mitcham not only provides immediate support to those facing hardship but also works towards building a more resilient and connected local community.
