Report written by James Smith
The journey to the task at the YMCA allotment tonight was, as every route is in Barnsley, quite hilly. But that doesn't bother us, with a steady pace and some talk no mountain is too high. Tonight we really focused on using the arms to aid our running; it really helps up these hills.
Folk from the YMCA were unable to meet us this evening, but we knew what to do by ourselves! Tonight we were weeding a bed overlooked by a scarecrow (which didn't startle James at any point) . It may keep the crows at bay but does nothing about the weeds. We each gathered a trowel, a trug, kneeling mats and some gloves from the lockup and got to work on opposing sides of the bed. As we were weeding we chatted about the various weeds we were pulling up, tonight mainly dandelions and bindweed. After filling a trug each we put all of the equipment away and set off for some fitness, all the way back down the hill in the peace gardens. By now it was raining and here we had a little cover, plus some good walls to jump up! We did 20 box jumps onto a wall, making sure to use our arms for good momentum, and finished with 20 classic tricep dips on a bench, focusing on correct technique. Fitness sesh ticked off, under the cover of the trees we stretched off here too. What a fab night!
