Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by James Smith
Tonight we ran to assist with the upkeep of the National Cycle Network's Route 67 in Barnsley. The distance of the run was a little further than usual tonight, and included some significant hills just to get to the section we'd be focusing on this evening.
It was decided that we would run to the far end of the section of NCN in Barnsley and work our way back litterpicking along the trail. On arrival at the trail there was a significant amount of litter around the entrance, so before even setting foot on the trail this path was cleared. There was a family just setting off to walk their dog and they were very impressed with the litterpicking efforts in action!
A long stretch of path was picked and almost everyone that went past said a friendly hello and thankyou for clearing up! Interesting finds tonight included a cage on a tether and parts of a snooker table... alongside the usual array of litter; cans, bottles, cigarette butts, plastic bags, bottle tops and crisp packets etc. Along the path, 2 huge purple bags of rubbish were picked and the trail was left in a far better state. The bags were left next to a bin on the roadside for collection.
There was no need for a fitness session tonight as the distance was great and there was lots of upper-body work involved in the pick.
What a tremendously trashy time we had!
