T(h)ree GGers turned up on Kimberlow Hill to care for some new woodland. We helped the Treemendous York Partnership folk and before we knew it 2 hours had flown by - without a drop of the forecast rain. Some of the tree guards had been colonised by ants and mounds of sandy soil were choking the trees (see photos). The guards were removed, the trees were freed and weeded and then the protection was reapplied to keep them snug and safe from other predators.

This is what the folk at Treemendous said: "We straightened and tidied up trees on the south side of the Kimberlow HilI site on the University Campus East site, part of which has copses in memory of deceased University members. At the same time we have cleared tree guards and supports, and collected those which are reusable to be used in future plantings and given away to other woodland creation organisations, thus avoiding the production of even more plastic. Sounds like an easy and boring job? No way, we finish up in a state of healthy tiredness, and with feelings of happiness and achievement."
