Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Linda
Took on this task last minute since I realised it was close to where I needed to be for another - so thought I could easily knock off 2 missions in one go! Turns out ‘easy’ wasn’t going to be the word for it....
Ms G needed a food parcel delivered from Castlehaven Community Centre. I was warned it opens midday and there might be a long wait, so turned up bang on time to line up. Was told they’re not ready yet, and normally text recipients when their parcel is ready. Not a prob! I ask if I could come back in 30 mins (thinking I can crack on with Sainsburys shop for task 2) and they said yep, they can make up the parcel for then.
30 mins later and laden with a heavy bag of goods for Ms C (more in part 2), I’m back at Castlehaven for Ms G’s food parcel. I thought 'parcel' meant 'small package'. Wrong! After more waiting, eventually I’m handed two HUMONGOUS bags, enough food for a family for the week. This is when I realise that I might've miscalculated my own strength and number of arms for carrying.
Nonetheless, Ms G lives a 6 min walk away so I thought I could muscle all three bags. Long story short, I did manage. But in the 31 degrees heat I thought I might literally melt from the exertion. Ms G was very sweetly grateful, and now two bags lighter, I was off to Ms C.
