Hats off to GoodGym as there is plenty of Scope to sort a summer wardrobe

Leicester Report written by Leicester runner

Despite the heavy traffic around Leicester tonight, Goodgym had a fantastic turnout with over 12 runners. Great to have Irene and Sharon back for their third week.

Mel was proudly wearing her new black Goodgym tee shirt to celebrate her completion of over 50 tasks.

With Dave leading and Jimmy tail running the group headed off past the University to the SCOPE charity shop in Belvoir street.

On arrival we were greeted by Liam who showed us what our task was tonight. Mel, Irene and Jeanette met us at the venue.

It was very cosy in the basement of the SCOPE shop sorting out the summer clothing items into categories ready to be stored for the winter. As hard as it is, it seems the long summer months we have enjoyed have come to an end.

After 30 minutes the Goodgymers had sorted, bagged and labeled 30 bags full from children's clothes to hats and accessories which gave cause for a few fun photos tonight.

Liam thanked us for our efforts and remarked that our previous task had had a massive impact in helping the staff with the job of sorting. We did even more this time!

The runners next headed off for a hill relay session on New Walk, this proved quite a challenge due to the amount of illegal cyclists treating New Walk like a race track.

Nevertheless another successful night ending with a cool down, stretch and a chat about next weeks task.

New Walk New Walk - so good we ran it twice

Leicester Report written by David Snutch

Great turnout for tonights task - with 4 regulars absent due to other engagements and the ladies from the US unexpectedly finding themselves in the middle of a house move we could easily have been 20 strong tonight,

The numbers allowed me to split off a sub team of Jim, Carlos, Elaine and Stu and as a result we got a bonus delivery done in the busy town section of the marathon route.

The majority headed off up to New Walk to meet Mel with the leaflets.

We welcomed both Irene and Sharon to their very first group run and in keeping with the ethos of the rest of the group got stuck straight into the task of delivering leaflets to a maze of streets off of New Walk.

The thing I have noticed about the Leicester team is everyone really gets on and is happy to work with whoever. Rachel paired up with Bex and between them attended to the whole of London Rd. Jen, Leigh and Nic formed a team of 3 to attack lower New Walk, Belvoir St Rutland St and Wellington St.

It was a logistical nightmare and I had no idea how it was going to pan out but I learnt that I should never underestimate the resourcefulness of our volunteers.

With only a small bit of waiting for our long distance sub team to finish we all rendezvoused at the New Walk Museum for some well earned cakes, biscuits and juice courtesy of Mel as usual.

I had planned an evil hill session but the interests of time and health and safety (too many Deliveroo cyclists illegally using New Walk) I decided against - after all most had already climbed Mt New Walk twice already so I figured we had all had a good workout.

Nearly 600 leaflets delivered to an area of about a square mile - a fantastic effort by the whole team - believe me when I say that as a marshal section leader for Leicester Marathon for at least 10 years this was vital information you were posting - well done and thanks

An apple a day wont keep goodgym away

Leicester Report written by Leicester runner

A busy night in Leicester as England were playing an international football game at home. Jim found an alternative route along the great central way to avoid the hoards of fans. This was a slightly longer route but a really good workout due to some hills. Mel and Jeanette, still with Great North miles in their legs and Michaela who still has an injury, joined the task at Saffron Acres. Bex joined us for her second task and it was great to have Elaine joining us too. The task was to clear brambles from the edge of the orchard and we had been invited to help ourselves to a few apples. Dave was first to sample and said they were delicious, Jen followed suit taking a few for an apple crumble! Unfortunately the only thing that Frank took away from the task was a few bites from the bugs. The team were soon hard at work cutting, chopping and removing the pesky brambles. With refreshments served, the run back along the great central way commenced before it got dark. Another successful task completed.

Too Hot To Trot! But look at all the litter we got!!

Leicester Report written by Lindsay Fung

Wowzers tonight was a scorcher. I think we were all feeling the heat tonight, and that was even before we started! Thankfully we had a short "hop, skip and a jump" to our favourite litter ridden Bede Park. I think even if the council doubled the amount of bins there it would still be the same amount of rubbish left behind by the many users of this popular park. Someone thanked us again which was nice. We were so busy litter picking, and because we hadn't taken long to get there, we extended our "task" by an extra 15 minutes as no one wanted to leave any litter behind. I must admit I lost count of how many bags we filled. It must have been at least 10! Lets hope the council don't mind picking them all up! hehe. Well done everyone, you're the best!! The fantastic outdoor gym equipment was put to good use again. But i'm afraid my idea of running round the park fell on deaf ears. And who can blame you, it was 29 degrees! Have a good time next week. I'll be in The Lake District in the rain no doubt. See you in two weeks. Lindsay
