GoodGym Runner

Bori Kovacs has done their first good deed with GoodGym.

Bori is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

Leaf it out (UCL starter session)

> Four amazing GoodGymers ran 5km and did some gardening for Cecil Sharp House.

UCL & GoodGym combined for a starter session last night and it was a great one!

We met outside the modern Bloomsbury Theatre building in the mist of other UCL buildings and the Euston area. After a good chat about GoodGym and our previous running experiences we headed to the task.

Traffic lights

Green, amber and red - traffic lights for runners are pretty annoying but unavoidable to be safe. Good job we were quickly over them and could go onto tackling the quieter streets of Camden.

We arrived at Cecil Sharp House, a world-class dedicated folk arts centre and the heart of English folk, and met Chief Gardener Susanna and volunteer Robert. They explained the importance of the work GoodGym has been doing over the last few months and how they were able to get an award recently!

Home of folk!

Our task this evening was as follows:

  • Rake the leaves on the lawn
  • Sweep up around the pavement areas
  • Water the grass we some special feed that helps keep things alive!
  • Clear a way any leaves that are amongst the plants

Fun fact of the evening from Susannah - the roots of a tree are predicted to reach x5 the width of the branches! Basically the trees at Cecil Sharp House dominate the sky and ground. Awesome sauce!

We finished up the task in 30 minutes and had made a big difference in such a quick time! We ran back and talked about the importance of running in groups to keep us motivated and how gyms aren't fun.

Come along to GoodGym Camden next Wednesday, we'll be heading to Skip Garden to help with their compost machine and shovel dirt in a new SKIP!

Thanks Paul
