No-Hands Solo

Friday 11th June 2021

The RingCross Community Centre Friday Food Bank Bike Delivery Funtime-athon has become so much a part of my routine and motivation to get my work for the week wrapped up early on a Friday afternoon, that I plumb blanked on being the only sign-up this week!

The RingCross team are always happy to see GoodGymmers, and I was able to get in a lovely sunny bike ride while delivering groceries to people in need all around Islington. The team are really organised and had addresses and boxes ready to go when I arrived. When delivering, you can see it makes a huge difference for the recipients.

If bunking off work early and pootling around on your bike in the sunshine (especially while doing some good for the local community) is your thing, then keep your peepers peeled for the next listing!

Headwinds Ahoy!

Friday 21st May 2021

Written by Simon Fitzmaurice

Goodgym Islington returned to the Ringcross Community Centre Foodbank this Friday to deliver parcels for the local residents, despite the potential 45 mile-an-hour winds forecast! Area Activator Simon, Steve and Olivia pedaled across the borough to drop off shopping bags and essential items for various food bank clients and households in Archway, Islington, Finsbury Park and Caledonian Road. The team on hand gifted us all some extra loaves of sourdough bread (donated from Gails bakery) and some homemade fruit loaf baked by Tom, one of the Ringcross regulars.

Great work everyone! We will be back again next week!

Wheely Good

Friday 23rd April 2021

Written by Steve Lee

Today was a gorgeous sunny afternoon, making the weekly bicycle deliveries of groceries for the RingCross Community Centre food bank a real pleasure. It's been a really great habit to get Friday work finished early, head out to the food bank and round the week off with a spin.

Olivia and Steve were our small but determined team today, and quickly shared out the neatly organised crates of food to be delivered. The wider team of volunteers running the food bank throughout the day are really friendly and thankful for the extra GoodGym support, which lightens their load and helps keep us fit too.

Navigating the streets with bicycle pannier bags, Olivia and Steve made short work of the list of recipients. They were given warm welcomes on delivery, and even some free surplus bread donated late in the day by a local bakery!

This mission runs at least once a week, and if you have a bike and some capacity to ferry around a few bags of groceries, we’re always glad to see more GoodGymmers signed up!

3 cyclists rode over the the Ringcross Community Centre Foodbank this evening, to help with delivering essential shopping and supplies to local households. AA Simon was joined by first timer Jamie (nice to meet you- thanks for coming down) and GG Hackney legend PvT with his lovely refurbished Royal Mail cargo bike in tow. We completed a solid number of pick ups and drop offs today, and were treated to some lovely spring time sunshine as we worked. Great stuff folks!
