Painting the town red

Tuesday 6th February

Written by Sian Dobson Hughes

Re:dish is a charity that aims to improve the lives of everybody in Reddish. Amongst other things, they aim to:

*Improve the lives of all people in Reddish; *Identify and reduce food poverty by providing no-cost and low-cost food, by using local *expertise to encourage healthy nutrition and by teaching the growing and cooking of fresh food; *Identify and reduce individual isolation by reconnecting people to networks of help and support; *Encourage the whole community to work together across age and culture barriers, sharing knowledge and skills

They are in the process of setting up a community supermarket at their Reddish hub and needed extra hands to help to paint the area.

Cue a bunch of red faced, red top wearing runners!

After a tour of the site, we got to work painting high and low - raises and squats and worked up a sweat!

Ready for round two next week!

When all is said and RUN ...

Tuesday 11th October 2022

Written by Sian Dobson Hughes

Last night saw 7 GoodGymers getting TROLLIED to help our local charity, Re:dish.

Re:dish were given a Safestore storage facility to house their donated goods and sadly, at the end of the month, their lease was up and the goods needed returning to the shop.

Like many times before, our regular Re:dish task is to use the finest form of transport for the donated stock - a trusty Morrisons trolley - and dash it down the road to move the goods.

This week, we welcomed a new GoodGymer, Julie, who quickly got settled in to her role as trolley dasher.

We left the shop and arrived at the storage facility, only to find ourselves locked out and unable to complete the task.

Undefeated, and with BAGS of energy (in stead of donated stock!) we took on an extended run and returned to base.

When all is said and RUN, we still had a great social run and a catch up!

Getting trollied with Re:dish

Tuesday 5th July 2022

With a heat wave promised in the weeks to come, Re:dish, a local charity which aims to improve the lives of the Reddish community, needed a helping hand to take their winter stock to a near by storage unit and bring out the summer wear ready to be hung for sale in their charity shop.

Forget Porches, Mercedes or Lamborghini's... our transport of choice were 7 gleaming, silver Morrison's trolleys which had been kindly lend to us to rally the donated goods down the high street and to the storage units.

With the carts packed to the brim, 5 GoodGymers and two Re:dish task owners happily rattled our way down the road to complete the half a kilometer relay route. Once at the storage unit, we 'to me'd and to you'd' the summer stock out of storage and swiftly replaced it with the winter stock like a well oiled production line.

We then set off on the return journey back to Re:dish to unload the summer gear ready for the shop floor. Resistance training at its finest!

Getting trollied with Re:dish

Tuesday 8th February 2022

Written by Sian Dobson Hughes

Last night's GoodGym Stockport group run saw 6 GoodGymers getting trollied down at Re:dish, a local charity. We welcomed back Jo, on her second task and also two Stockport newbies from Tom and Meera! We had a 'mixed bag' of Stockport oldies, newbies and tourists!

Our task took us back to the days of Supermarket Sweep, with Morrisons, Reddish, kindly lending 8 of their gleaming silver trolleys to enable us to help Re:dish to move their donated Summer stock to a local Safe Store storage facility.

Our run began at Life Leisure Houldsworth, with Kirsty and Pete energetically adding distance to their run by running to the start point! Bonus miles!

We set off in convoy to collect the trolleys and donated goods, roughly 60 bags full, from Re:dish. Our task was to trolley dash the good to the local Safe Store facility, ready for them to be brought into the shops for the summer season. What a trolley dash it was!

Once at the storage facility, we tactically created a chain and slide converyorbelt to manoeuvre the bags up the unit.

We had bags of fun getting trollied!.

Dishing out leaflets for Re;Dish

Tuesday 22nd October 2019

5 runners set off from our** BRAND NEW LOCATION! ** meeting at 6.15pm, setting off running at 6.30pm. Last nights run was the longest we have done for a while, we ran a total of 10km, but what a perfect evening for it. Setting from Stockports Historical market PRODUCE HALL we were running through Stockport, via Reddish to get to a area called poets corner in North Reddish. Our task was to promote and leaflet drop for the charity Re;Dish, they have a charity shop based in the heart of Reddish, this is the base for lots of great community projects and aim to help may local people. I met the lovely Gemma from Re;Dish who works promotes and helps organise various events that helps the community come together. The particular event we were promoting was a benefits information and advice day on Friday 8th November 1-3pm at the Pavilion in North Reddish park, if your interested or know someone who is to you can book a place by contacting Re;Dish on 07498996634.

Once we got to our location we tag teamed our way through all the streets and houses, it was the perfect evening for a long run, the leaves all falling and there was a lovely calm mood to the night, and lots of chatter and putting the world to rights, one question was 'what law would you enforce' MMmmmmm something to think about.

The run back was lovely, a really nice calm pace and we even ran through Penny lane.

Massive shout out to Hannah for pacing at the Preston 10K on Sunday, fab job, and well done to Tony for completing the York Marathon even with a calf injury.

Don't forget that next week and all the weeks after we will now be meeting at the PRODUCE HALL, its a much more social space so we can have a get together now if we so wish, and Im sure people will wish......

Have a great wk end running
