All aboard for a steamy task

Thursday 23rd July

Written by Nick Pryke

Three Goodgymmers went to help the garden maintenance team at Great Central Railway's Leicester North station at Birstal. Now that it's summer, they have 2 trains per hour running to this teminal station. Jen, Jimmy and Nick got straight onto trimming back the bushes and brambles that overhang the platform wall, and snag on the bunting along the length of the platform. The GCR team were very.grateful that we had tidied it up in one session. Jen emptied her drink bottle and refilled it with juicy blackberries from the removed brambles. The steam train was a great sight coming into the station then swapping the engine to the other end for the return journey with lots of passengers enjoying a trip on this hot sunny day.

GG gardening on Platform 2 - its now well trimmed & ready for boarding

Thursday 14th May

Written by Jeanette Douglas

A successful first colab with the GCR volunteer team completed. Nick, Jimmy and Jen were set to cutting back the overgrown vegetation along the grass verge used as a parking area. Of course it wouldn't be a GG task without litter picking being involved - 3 buckets full and a bag of drinks cans for Nick to donate to Air Ambulance. The GG team made good work of the overgrown vegetation and cleared the lot quite swiftly, after a spot of grass trimming by a GCR volunteer the area looked fabulous. Hopefully this is the start of a great partnership with GCR. The next session will be scheduled for June with the intention of a monthly visit. Please check out the future sessions for the next GCR/GG task.
