How Deep Is Your Bulb? #RunBrightatNight

Lambeth Report written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

Well either 3cm or 10 cm, depending on the size of the bulb.

Tonight's task and accompanying subject matter was all about bulbs and keeping light!

We met at Papa's, welcomed Hannah to her first GoodGym run 🥳 and discussed different types of light 💡 with some very clever/somewhat questionable answers... Former GG Lambeth runner/legend (and now GG York Area Activator!) Nicky wanted to start a conversation about how important it is to make ourselves visible when running at night. Our red tees are pretty good, but some reflective strips/those fancy silver jackets are definitely a good shout.

#RunBrightatNight

And suggestions of using headtorches, regular torches and light bulbs fit in very well with the evening's task...

We split into a couple of groups, going 2 or 4k to Fairholme House which provides sheltered accommodation. When we arrived, Anke and Conrad showed us a very well prepared area of grass, with a perfect number of trowels (and one spinny bulb apple corer type gizmo) and a selection of different bulbs - snowdrops, daffodils and fritallia meleagris which really are chequered! 🤯

How Deep Is Your Bulb?

Anke explained how bulbs need to be planted at twice the depth of the bulb's size (e.g. 1.5cm bulb needs to be covered in 3cm soil) - useful to know!

We whizzed through the task, and were done in 20 minutes! We took a quick snap and then headed back via Wyck Gardens for some Rock, Paper, Scissors action (feat. sprints, wall sits and squats).

This evening's bakes were kindly provided by Aislin - some mouthwateringly delicious sticky toffee muffins. 🤤😋🧁

Chairs, tables, screws and cardboard

Lambeth Report written by Sarah Beck

Seven of us met on Saturday morning at Jubilee school to help build some furniture before kids start returning in the next few weeks!

The first job was unpacking about 30 chairs and carrying them upstairs which we smashed through quickly.

The bigger task was the very satisfying job of attaching legs to tables. We all took a few tables each, built them and stacked them all up.

We will be back to the school on Tuesday for some furniture moving and possibly continuing to unpack the library - see you there!

Zara done a 6 month mission streak.

Zara just completed a six month streak of doing missions. That’s so many bags of garden rubbish cleared and jobs done to help someone out and put a smile on their face. Give Zara a cheer to encourage them to keep up the good work.

Off Our Trolley

Lambeth Report written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

We had a lovely little gang this morning for a couple of tasks at the delightfully lush Ruskin Park Community Garden.

Top of the agenda was digging out the good stuff from the bottom of the compost heap. We then had to sift it in order to get rid of some of the twigs. Justin had a few little sieves but as pretty experienced sievers, we suggested a shopping, which they did actually have!

So we filled up the wheel barrows, emptied it into the trolley and shook it to let the good stuff into a sack underneath. The twigs went back onto the pile to decompose for longer.

Zara also did some chopping back of the wilder bit of the garden which was enveloping a nice circle of log seats.

After a warm hour of working we called it a day and the Justin and Sadie kindly gave us all some spinach to take home! Sam and Esse were off to the Windmill for their second of three missions for the day(!) and Zara and I headed home.
