Steam .. if you wanna run faster

Bath Report written by Bath runner

The sun was out tonight in Bath along with a 15 strong team ready to tread the streets for a nice 4K run to Oldfield Baptist Toddler group to clean the kiddies play things ready for a new term.

A big shout out to everyone who'd raced over the last week

during the pre run catch up and always confused headcount.

And they're off

to Oldfield park with the sunshine in their eyes and cool breeze in their hair, to get steaming and cleaning with toys. Liz was excited to see us and understandably as it normally takes her a day and a half to do this task on her own

Enough to drive anyone crazy

from steaming soft toys to sanitizer and dish sterilisation of all those little blocks n bits.

Some might say we are Potty

They did such a good, we even formed a band with a little help from the instrument box..... A...mazing!!!

Time up and they're off back to the leisure centre, where it all began. A discussion about the Pun which I believe I may have confused on the journey home.

Thanks Pascale for taking the tail, Rosie for the Pun and everyone for being fab.

Jaxx is now officially task force so watch this space, she full of fun ideas.

I'd have gone with "The Run and Steam-py Show" but just realised that might actually be an obscure reference these days!

Another hill... Kale me now!

Bath Report written by Bath runner

Tonight was a toughie, with 12 runners braving the hills of Bath on a 7k run to the guerrilla garden at Donkey Lane.

Only a few runs at the weekend - well done to everyone in Riga! And well done Emily and Sam on the Two Tunnels 10k. Hopefully there'll be a full crew of trusty GoodGymers out in force for the third instalment of the Two Tunnels race series in July - it's one of the big six races for GoodGym this year! More info here.

Tonight we headed to another guerrilla garden maintained by the wonderful Transition Bath; this time at the top of Donkey Lane. With Snow Hill between us and the task there was some donkey work to be done before we made it to the top! But we pushed on to meet Sue, who had plenty for us to do.

Helen, Ant, Nicola and Alison were on weeding and clearing duty for the top path, with Sophie, Joe, Sam, Steve and Jaxx tackling the long path through the middle of the garden, some of which was hidden by the huge bush of kale! Pascale and Sam tackled some nettles, avoiding ripping up the 'walking onion' plant - worth a Google, its very strange!

With the garden transformed, Sue offered us some kale to take home with us. Without bags, we must have looked mad running back through town with our kale bouquets!

Pretty sure we should be called FoodGym Bath.

Thanks to everyone for being nice to me on my first proper attempt at leading the run this week! Thanks to Pascale for back marking and of course, the pun master himself, Joe, for this week's pun. See you next week!

Weed came and ... weed conquered

Bath Report written by Bath runner

Wow!!! Can't believe it's May already, doesn't time fly when your having fun and that's exactly what 16 runners at Goodgym Bath had on a 7k run out to Action on Hearing Loss tonight. It's a residential home for deaf people and provides care and support, the gardens here are beautiful but quite extensive for Evan who is resident gardener.

We had a special guest with us tonight to lead our run. Steph doing the introduction before handing over the reigns to Ben.

Welcome to Ben ... Whoop!!

He will be trainer for Goodgym Cardiff which launches on May 23rd, so help spread the word to friends and family in Cardiff.

Welcome intro from Ben to the group and especially Sophie joining us for her first group run, so with warm up, hazards and headcount out of the way we set off for the task.

We regrouped on the way out with a variety of drills to improve strength, coordination all in the name of injury prevention and improvement to form, from explosive step ups to walking lunges and more.. whoop!!! Kept them quiet .. Ha!!!

Evan was ready to greet us on arrival and

Pascale (our very own sign interpreter)

Was along with us to help with communication and give the group a sign lesson... fantastic stuff!!

Ben soon had the group divided into two with a reminder of the hazards. Great to see everyone hard at it and under Bens watchful eye, making sure as much as possible was achieved in 30 mins whilst flitting back and forth taking some fab photos and cheering the troops along. In total the group weeded their way through three separate flower beds, weeds in wheelbarrows and off to the compost heap. Ben played music in the final minutes, it was of course

The Final Countdown

Steph wanted A little Less Conversation a Little More Action, have to save that she be for next week.

Boom!! Time up

But not before taking a Bath Boomerang and group photo and signing Goodbye to Evan. Lydia even found time for some flower arranging and Fungi picking (at her own risk) but was talked out of cooking this one for breakfast.

We arrived back at the leisure centre with a minute to spare and I have to say it's a tight one to get through as every second counts from beginning to end. Ben cheered everyone at the finish line and led the cool down and stretch out.

Didn't he do well... He did indeed!!

Thanks to Sam for the Pun tonight and to Emily for back marking.

Thank you!! Ben for doing an amazing job this evening even though it's not your city.

Goodgym Luck for the Cardiff Launch.. Whoop!!

Don't forget you documents if your Waiting to get paired up or go on missions, just chat to Emily or myself if you have any questions.

Dig it, just a little bit

Hackney Report written by Bianca Jakubowski

Four Goodgym runners met up on Saturday morning to help Ms G with potting some plants and preparing her raised bed so that she can enjoy home-grown vegetables again.

Khara, Becky, Marie and Bianca arrived at Ms G’s place and were greeted by Ms G who was happy to see them. She explained that she had not been well recently and has therefore not been able to look after the communal garden which made her sad. But help was at hand and Khara and Bianca started straight away turning the soil on the raised beds while Marie, Becky and Ms G herself got on with removing last years dead plants from the pots to replace them with fresh ones.

The raised bed crew struggled a little with the turning of the soil as the key to the store room could not be located and the only tools that were available were two little trowels (one of which had a tendency to bend). However, a good chat and some helpful watering of the solid soil by Becky helped. An hour later, all was well and the soil was sufficiently prepared for the fresh compost which was mixed in with the old soil.

Marie and Becky meanwhile were busy watering the garden and following precise instructions from Ms G on how exactly the new plants should to be potted. It was lovely to see that Ms G herself got stuck in and how she enjoyed being able to do a bit of gardening herself while safely resting on her rollator. Marie in particular learned an awful lot about exactly how much soil needs to go into a pot.

After an hour of hard work Becky had to go to work and then there were three.

While Marie continued to assist Ms G, Khara and Bianca were sent to the local church (!) to fetch some more compost. Khara was initially a little worried about the legality of that particular part of the task but she needn't have worried: it was all legal and no crimes have been committed at any stage of the mission.

Then Khara had leave and then there were two. Well, three, actually…

The look of her transformed garden seemed to have boosted Ms G’s energy and enthusiasm and she started planting her spinach in the newly turned-over raised beds and sowed some broad bean and sweet pea seeds. After almost 3 hours the remaining 2 Goodgym runners tidied up and helped Ms G carry all the tools back up to her balcony. Ms G kindly offered a cup of tea and repeatedly declared her gratitude for the help she had received. Overall a very successful mission resulting in a very happy Ms G.

Fork! Two tasks!! .. We don't hang around

Two tasks tonight at Goodgym Bath for the 18 strong team for a 5k run to a couple of Guerrilla gardens for transition Bath.

One mass group led out by our fab run leader Emily with Pascale as her run leader support at the rear as poor old Steph is still not able to run, but she's still keeping up with us in her little car.

Task One at Gravel Walk

The Magnificent Seven worked hard to transform the gravel walk community garden with Virginia tonight. Pascale overseeing this task.

Bea, Sophie & Ed constructed a new compost area which eager diggers & weeders Lucy, Nicola & Pascale took no time at all to fill up.

Mary carefully crafted a new hazel wood fence and we all took great pride in our freshly planted raspberries, strawberries, onions & Chinese greens.

After a tidy up and returning tools to the car we were treated to some fresh rhubarb to take home with us.

So it's rhubarb compote and crumble cooking time for these Goodgym runners tonight!

Task Two finishing off Park street

Legs 11 strong team to finish off as much as possible at Park Street Guerrilla garden.

Steve, Joe, Sam x2, Emily, Doris and Jaxx tackling the remaining weeds at the top of the footpath ready for planting with herbs that are shallow rooted.

Emma, Steve, Lydia and Steph clearing the old leaves up and pulling up stinging nettles, bramble, Ivy and cutting back the tree.

We filled the compost buns, bagged the leaves to rot down separately, made two bonfires and managed not to cause any injuries to each other, although several attempts were made.. ha!!!

Sam and Joe proved to be the worlds strongest men tonight lifting a big stone and putting it in place for our host Lyn, not sure if they were smiling or grimacing under the pressure.

Just enough time to catch a group photo before Lyn thanked us and we headed back towards gravel walk to regroup and head back to the leisure centre.

Wow!!! What satisfying tasks and what wonders everyone worked tonight

just like that !!

Thanks guys you are all amazing and a pleasure to be part of this magical team.
