It was lovely morning at May Park primary school today. Our task was to get all of the wooden fences and structures in the playground painted. We divided and conquered with buckets of paint and brand new paint brushes(!!) to get the job done and had fun catching up as we went and moaning about other's not doing the edges and then realising we didn't need to do the edges.. ahem
We stopped for a break at the mid way point and felt re-energised for the final push. The school teachers were really pleased with what we had achieved and we had a great time doing it. It even stayed sunny!
After a creme egg or 3 we headed on our merry way. A fantastic way to spend my 200th good deed. Thanks all (and especially to Jenny for the vegan cake) 😊
We will be helping out May Park Primary school with lots of painting. All of the exterior wood needs to a lick of paint, including fences, playground equipment, shelters, sheds etc. This essential maintenance will ensure the longevity of the exterior items and will also provide the children with a nicer place to play.
Please come in clothes that you don't mind getting painty!
We will be socially distancing during this task and outside at all times. Not sure yet sure if toilets will be available so spend a penny before you arrive.
Sarah is part of a crowd that's making a huge noise. Sarah has been cheered by 25 people - that's a round of applause just on their own. We hope they keep it up.
Weightlifting challenge accepted!
Turn 20 single item pallets into 20 multi-item pallets - go!
Beans, tinned tomatoes, tuna, couscous, sauces - you name it, we Tetris-stacked it.
All so we can unpack one of the pallets tomorrow at St Luke’s Lunch Club!
FareShare South West is running an emergency Foodstock campaign to help meet the unfortunate demand for food assistance this winter. We’ll be helping them mix pallets of food donations at their warehouse (next door to the Wickes and near Ashton Gate Stadium).
IMPORTANT POINTS If you're feeling unwell or have any possible covid symptoms please don't come and put anyone at risk, also if you're asked to isolate or have any other reason you can't make your shift please let us know as soon as possible so we can find a replacement.
Please put your mask on before entering the warehouse and keep it on at all times. FareShare can provide masks, high vis, steel toe cap overshoes and protective gloves but if you have your own you're welcome to bring them.
Please practise social distancing 2m as much as possible in the warehouse (although there may be times when this isn't always possible).
Please bring plenty of warm clothes (it will get cold in the warehouse), a water bottle, a mug if you have one and your own snacks or food if you would like it (tea and coffee will be provided).
Some manual handling and lifting will be required.
There is access to toilet and handwashing facilities in the building and sanitising stations around the building – please use them regularly.
Additional info will be emailed before the task.
The Adventure Playground is finally able to reopen after all the Covid lockdowns and huge rebuild after last year’s arson attack!
It’s looking amazing and we were tidying up the last of the building tools and moving the old, incredibly heavy, fencing so it can be recycled into something fun somewhere else.
We’ll be back to support this fantastic place and people soon 🤩
St Paul's Adventure Playground is getting closer to opening after the arson attack las t year and the epic rebuild.
They need some help with a bit of everything, and it's a huge space so we're almost unlimited on helper numbers! OK, there’ll be a max of 10 of us.
Do bring your gloves, there'll be leaf sweeping, lifting, shifting and tidying. Plus chat and friendship at one of our favourite tasks.
